Day #3-Monday March 7th Wuhan school tours- A taste of Chinese education

We spent the day at the Wuhan’s best schools HuaZhong Normal University (high school) and Central Chinese Normal University (college). The high school was very large and somewhat over whelming. The Chinese schooling system is very intense and puts American students to shame. Students stay in the tiny dorms and start class at 7 am and end at 10 pm 6 days a week. They are in the same classrooms all day and have breaks for food and exercise. After a long day in the class students have to return to their dorms and the electricity is shut off at 11 pm.

We spent the morning in Steve Wilmurth’s class-about 50 students and they made us a very nice welcoming video. Then we played a little game of getting to know you scavenger hunt-where the Champlain students were given a sheet with pictures of a couple of the students along with some questions. After that we went to the courtyard where all 6,000 students assembled in nice uniform rows, raised their flag, and sang their national anthem for us. It was amazing how quickly the 6,000 high school students assembled. Then we did some more touring of the school.

Our next stop was the Central Chinese Normal University. This was more of a college and students there were from all over the world. We talked to three students from the USA, Russia, and Spain. They all seemed to love it in China and the most amazing part was that they could all speak Chinese. It is part of the schools curriculum to teach the foreign students how to speak Chinese because all of the classes are in Chinese.

This was our last night with our host families, so we spent the last few nights talking about life and what not.
